ExtraGive is an online giving event hosted by the Lancaster County Community Foundation, and we ask you to donate that day through our ExtraGive link:

ExtraGive = Extra Special Announcement:
Thanks to Jim and Pat Kermes, there is a very generous match campaign, in honor of their dog, Sophia, DVGRR alumni (17-320) that will take place on Friday. Every donation received between 7:00 a.m. and 1:59 p.m. will be matched (up to $20,000). Thanks to them, you can double your donation when you give during that time (and see below for times to donate that might win an additional prize)!
It’s simple: When you give extra, the dogs get extra.
We never know from one day to the next, from one week to the next, and from one month to the next, the challenges we may face. Most recently, it’s been quite a number of dogs coming through our doors that need extensive veterinary care, including visits to specialists and surgical procedures that go beyond what we can offer at our BARK (Buddy’s Animal Rescue Klinic) hospital.
Additionally, this summer was hotter than normal, which certainly put a strain on our budget for electricity. So I said “strain,” but the reality is that these sorts of things can be budget busters. We don’t have to tell you that everything is getting more expensive. You face it in your own household, and we face it every day at Golden Gateway as well. It costs us more to fill our transport vehicles with gas. In a perfect world, dogs would be dropped off at our door, but we know the reality of what happens to puppy mill dogs if we don’t pick them up. So we gas up and drive to get them, wherever they may be.
Electrical rates and the cost of propane continue to climb. Dog food and veterinary supply costs are up. Caring for an average of 60 dogs a day means a lot of wear and tear on, well, everything. And when we have to replace equipment and make repairs, the costs of those things are higher than ever before.
The money we raise through the ExtraGive each year certainly helps smooth out the budget bumps (and busters) that we encounter. We’ve been participating in this event since it began in 2012, and because of it, we have continually been able to do extra for the dogs.
We pride ourselves on the level of care we provide—both through the veterinary care we provide to socialization with staff and volunteers to our nationally recognized Project Home Life program. This has always been one of DVGRR’s hallmarks since our founding 30 years ago. We knew when we purchased Golden Gateway over 20 years ago that we would incur the associated costs of running a facility; however, we made that decision because dogs were “slipping through the cracks” and we were struggling to find enough foster homes. That was counter to our mission—the same one that drives all of our decisions today: “Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue provides new beginnings for displaced Golden Retrievers and other golden-hearted dogs, along with a full array of adoptive and educational support for the adopters and broader community.”
We have always been extraordinarily grateful for the support of our DVGRR family. When we have a need, you always help us meet the challenge. One of the benefits of the ExtraGive event is the stretch pool, which is, more or less, “free money.” Thanks to the generosity of LCCF supporters including the High Foundation and Murry Foundation, there has typically been $500,000 in the stretch pool that is divvied up to participating organizations based on the number of donors to each organization. The more unique donors we have that day, the more of the stretch pool we’ll earn. In addition to your own donation on Nov. 22nd, you can do more for the dogs by encouraging your friends, family, and colleagues to donate as well. There are also a number of cash prizes we can earn throughout the day.
Donations to the ExtraGive* are online and via credit card with the option to help cover any associated fees, so the dogs get more of your donation. If you are considering a sizable donation ($2,500+) or would like to set up a matching campaign, please reach out to Karen Whittaker (karen@dvgrr.org or 717-484-4799) to discuss various options to make the most of your generosity.
So please mark your calendar for Nov. 22nd and bookmark our page (www.extragive.org/organizations/delaware-valley-golden-retriever-rescue-inc), and remember: when you give extra, the dogs get extra!
*Your receipt on Nov. 22nd will come from LCCF, but rest assured, the dogs will receive your full donation (less any associated fess unless you opt to cover them).
HELP the DVGRR dogs get funds from the Stretch Pool by asking your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors to donate during the ExtraGive.
Each unique donor (not the amount of the donation) will help us gain more Stretch Pool Funds! Call your contacts to remind them to donate!
