The “Hi, I’m Myla!” Initiative
Best Friend: One who offers you support, improves your quality of life, promotes self-confidence, helps you progress mentally, and provides honesty and unconditional love.
We rescued Myla from DVGRR in September of 2017 and from that moment, she was our best friend. If you had the opportunity to meet Myla, you know she had two distinguishing features to go with her loving personality: Velvet ears and a tail nub due to an injury she suffered as a stray in Puerto Rico–but she never let that hold her back. It was the waggiest darn nub you had ever seen. And nothing made that nub wag harder than going for a run.
Over the next six years, Myla was with us for everything. Two states, three homes, a wedding, a baby, countless races, and a few ups and downs along the way. She was our constant ray of light.
Unfortunately, in the summer of 2022, she was diagnosed with lymphoma, and we were told she had, at best, six months left. However, Myla fought for a year. She gave us the joy of seeing her meet our daughter, Ava. Myla protected Ava for nearly the entire first year of her life. We said goodbye to Myla in August of 2023 but not before she enjoyed a double bacon cheeseburger and fries with us by her side. That was one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do. However, we know she is still with us every day and would want others to experience the same type of love she brought to our lives. Which is why I’ve started the “Hi, I’m Myla!” initiative.
This spring, I’ll be running my first marathon at the Coastal Delaware Running Festival. But I don’t want to run just to run – I want my miles to have a purpose, just like Myla had a purpose in our lives. So, as part of my training, I am going to raise funds to support the rescue that gave us our golden girl. However, this is just the beginning.
Our mission is to raise at least $10,000 for DVGRR in 2024 through a number of different channels to give as many families as possible the opportunity to rescue and be rescued just like we were.
A donation of any size is thoroughly appreciated, however, if you are unable to contribute financially, I simply ask that you share this page with as many people as possible.
